Bijin-ga
Bijin-ga is Japanese for an art genre popular about 200
years ago in Japan and made famous, most notably, by
Utamaro (1753-1806). Literally, it means picture of (ga)
a beautiful (bi) person (jin) but since Utamaro’s time,
the connotation has been that of 'a beautiful woman'.
Studio Bijin-ga, established in Europe in the eighties,
has consistently focused on the photographic
representation of beautiful women.
