Japanese screens – Made by a third-generation traditional Japanese screen maker in Kyoto, Japan, these screens celebrate the traditional screen makers’ craft while incorporating erotic images that were very much part of life in Japan in households where screens enabled privacy in an otherwise public milieu. Look at the old Japanese prints and not necessarily ‘shunga’. Erotic connotations abound; Pascal acknowledges and celebrates the erotic association with screens and what went on behind them.
